Ultramar Events: A Responsible Company.

The MICE division of TUI Spain shares TUI Travel PLC’s values at world level. In Spain, TUI works mainly to protect the environment and foster tourism which is responsible in environmental terms and respectful of culture and traditions. In this respect, TUI Spain has signed the Environmental Pact with the Balearic islands in order to build up this kind of responsible tourism and has set up the TUI Environmental Champion awards, which are highly-regarded in the Spanish hotel business.

In 2007 TUI Spain also supported the European Year of the Dolphin, a global awareness-raising campaign instituted by the United Nations under the Bonn Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), the main aim of which was to organise various awareness-raising activities at global level to help preserve migratory wildlife.

TUI Spain has an Environment and Sustainable Development department. This department, which reaches throughout the TUI Travel PLC group, is responsible for making sure environmental good practice is followed at all the group’s sites: cutting consumption, using resources responsibly, taking part in actions and initiatives to preserve nature and fostering environmental awareness.

In Spain, it works together with local bodies at the various holiday destinations in which it operates. The main aim is to foster environmental quality in the hotel business, to reward outstanding achievement by hotels and to offer them efficient management tools in cooperation with industry professionals. These include, for example, a practical guide to improving environmental management by hotels, on which TUI cooperated with Ashotel.
